Course Description

This 5-day course combines both the OSHA 10 Hour General Industry and the IICRC Health & Safety Technician certification course.

The Health and Safety Technician (HST) certification covers occupational health and safety. This certification demonstrates competency in cleaning, maintenance, and restoration industries concerning the Global Harmonized System (GHS) and health and safety principles. The certification cover engineering and administrative controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment used in each specific industry or trade. The certification promotes the importance of hazard and risk assessments and implementing controls on the identified hazards. The hierarchy of hazard controls is emphasized so that eliminating, reducing, and controlling hazards will become the focus of health and safety instead of just regulatory compliance. Upon achieving the certification, you demonstrate you have the skills, knowledge, and awareness they need to save lives and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses and recognize and appreciate the value of health and safety on the job.

Course Objective

Course objective: As an aspiring Health and Safety Technician, you’ll be trained in critical skills that will help you ensure the highest standards of health and safety are being practiced in your workplace. This includes:

Understanding the fundamentals of OSHA standards and practices;

– Introduction to OSHA

– Walking and Working Surfaces, including fall protection

– Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention

– Electrical 

– Personal Protective Equipment

– Hazard Communication

– Elective Topics (Ergonomics and Respirator Protection)

Conducting accurate workplace inspections and administering the appropriate citations and penalties;

Accurate record management and documentation procedures;

How to effectively utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);

Becoming a subject matter expert in important OSHA concepts including (but not limited to): hazard communication, hazardous materials, confined spaces, and bloodborne pathogens.

MASTER DESIGNATION: You must obtain the IICRC HST Certification to earn Master Water Restorer and Master Fire and Smoke Restorer designations.
